Mick was straight into it from the start of CSKA, his enthusiasm to play and socialise were perfect to bond a new bunch of lads who had all come from different social circles. Never shy to go and get a round in at the bar after, and his lack of a driving licence was his perfect excuse to get an extra few in on a Sunday lunchtime.

Mick brought with him flair and exuberance that charmed us all, but on the pitch he barely put a foot wrong. An abundance of right-backs and central midfielders limited his playing time, but any time he took to the field he played with his heart on his sleeve, he’d do anything for his teammates (except score!). And at the end of the game, even in defeat he was the one who would raise spirits and remind us all why we play this sport.

When the squad got too big in 2011, CSKA II were formed and Mick was first to put his hand up to take the reigns. In what was an extremely challenging period for the club with 48 players getting CSKA II competitive appearances that season, Mick handed debuts to the likes of Dan Mewies, Dave Thompson and Gaz Walker.
