Danny “Danny Boy” Coulton was as committed, versatile and hard-working as they come. Having played with McCafferty at FC Knights, Coulton was one of the first signings for CSKA and made history by becoming the scorer of CSKA’s first ever goal when he converted an early penalty away at FC Komrska in August 2008.
Inspired by his hero Stuart Pearce, Danny love playing full-back. He loved to get stuck in, get an early tackle in, and scream for all his might as he contested a header.
His pace meant he was sometimes called to play in a wide-midfield role, and his cat like reflexes also landed him emergency cover roles between the sticks on 6 occasions.
Danny put everything into training, where sometimes we wondered if winning training matches was more important to him than the actual matches!
His wonder strike against Bees Knees landed him the 12/13 Goal of the Season Award, and a couple of years later was awarded Manager’s Player of the Season in CSKA’s 2nd place campaign in Division 2.
Coulton not only scored the first goal of Luke Williamson era, but also scored the last away at Gaunt in 2016.
Coulton would eventually leave CSKA Carnabys in 2017 and was part of the consortium that founded Blaby Wanderers where he played up until 2022 before eventually retiring from the game.
