CSKA Carnabys produced their best performance of the season to beat Sporting Dynamo 3-1 away from home, coming from behind to secure a place in the next round of the County Cup.
Encouraged by the wide pitch, the visitors started on the front foot, using the left-hand side to create a series of early attacking opportunities. However, a quick Dynamo counter-attack saw CSKA fall behind for the first time this season.
The response was immediate and impressive. Jasper Clarke nearly equalised after a clever reverse drag-back and shift created a clear sight of goal, only to be denied by the goalkeeper. Minutes later, Clarke turned provider, slipping the tireless Pascal Bouttier-Butler through to finish under the keeper and restore parity at 1-1.
CSKA were ahead just a minute later. Hiran Mistry’s powerful breaking run released Clarke on the edge of the box, and the midfielder unleashed a ferocious strike into the far top corner to make it 2-1. Mistry then came close to a contender for Goal of the Day himself, seeing a long-range effort fumbled onto the crossbar.
The third goal arrived shortly before half-time. Tristan Ratan-Wright delivered a precise cross, and Matt Westerman attacked the ball with ease to head home and give the visitors a two-goal cushion at the break.
Dynamo improved after the restart and enjoyed a strong opening ten minutes of the second half, but CSKA regained control and continued to look dangerous on the break. Jacob Blount was denied what appeared to be a clear penalty, while several efforts from distance sailed over the bar.
The visitors’ work-rate and determination to protect the lead were outstanding, particularly in the closing stages. Substitutes entered a tense game and each made a valuable contribution as CSKA saw out the result.
Against a strong opponent, the side dominated possession, made full use of the wide pitch, and were equally impressive out of possession, tracking runners, winning individual duels and maintaining a compact defensive shape.
The performance sets a clear standard heading into upcoming fixtures, with the management group confident that the intensity and quality on display will provide a strong platform for the challenges ahead.
Very pleasing performance. Reaction to conceding early was fantastic, and gave us a healthy and deserved lead going into the break. Probably should have added a couple more after riding out a good response by them at the start of the second half, but a great cup victory nonetheless.
We talked a lot about standards pre-game and the lads were true to their word.

Jasper was in inspired from right from the start and properly introduced himself to the club today with a wonder strike and a delightful assist. Treated us throughout the game to brilliant moments of creativity, and put in a mega shift with his fellow midfielders to give us dominance!
