CSKA II bounced back from defeat at Sileby with a resilient 2-0 victory over AFC Market Bosworth, claiming their first three points of the Division Four campaign in a performance that far exceeded expectations given the number of players unavailable.

With a new look to the side, the first half was built around defensive solidity. The back four of Sat Thandi, Amit Patel, Mark Bell and Patrick Edwards performed superbly, limiting Bosworth to very few clear-cut chances and keeping the game tight at the interval.

The standout moment of the opening period came from goalkeeper Owen Schofield. After CSKA lost possession in midfield, Bosworth broke quickly and delivered a cross from the left that was met with a powerful header. Schofield somehow got a firm left hand to the ball and clawed it around the post in what was widely regarded as one of the best saves seen from a CSKA Carnabys player.

The second half saw Bosworth enjoy more of the ball, but they struggled to break down CSKA’s organised and disciplined defence.

The deadlock was eventually broken through a sharp press from Heath Robson-Moore and Harry Pitchford. The pressure forced the ball loose with the Bosworth goalkeeper stranded outside his area, and Pitchford laid it off to Jake Hayward, who calmly lobbed from 30 yards over the keeper and into the empty net for his first goal for the club.

Archie Ball doubled the lead in the 80th minute. A pinpoint pass from Schofield found Ball, who shrugged off a physical centre-back before racing clear and slotting the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs to seal the three points.

There was still time for late drama when Bosworth were awarded a penalty in controversial circumstances. However, Schofield once again proved decisive, diving to his left to parry the effort clear of danger and preserve the clean sheet.

A significant step forward for CSKA II, combining defensive resilience with clinical finishing and a standout goalkeeping performance to secure a deserved first win of the season.

CSKA Man of the Match

Schofield was named Man of the Match for the second time this season. His contribution went beyond the penalty save and assist, as he made a series of important stops throughout the game with composure and class well beyond his years.
