CSKA

CSKA Carnabys shared the points in a thrilling 3-3 draw with New Parks 90, coming from behind late on to secure a fair result against one of Division One’s stronger sides.

Knowing they would need to work hard and move the ball quickly to frustrate their opponents, CSKA made a solid start, with early chances falling to Tristan Ratan-Wright and Jasper Clarke, both of whom narrowly missed the target. The hosts also had to stay alert to long balls played in behind, a clear strength of the visitors, and were fortunate not to concede early.

Theo Grant gave CSKA the lead on 16 minutes with a stunning long-range strike, following excellent pressure from Jacob Blount on the goalkeeper that forced a turnover. The goal is an early contender for Goal of the Season.

The lead was doubled 20 minutes later when Shivan Solanki’s quick feet split the defence, playing in Blount, who finished expertly through the goalkeeper’s legs.

CSKA then came under sustained pressure for the next 20 to 25 minutes. Despite getting into a compact shape in front of goal, gaps were exploited by a couple of fierce strikes from the edge of the box, allowing New Parks to level the game.

The visitors took the lead on 70 minutes, a frustrating moment as it felt CSKA had finally weathered the storm and regained a foothold in the game.

However, the response was excellent. With heads up and everyone grafting to get back into the game, Jasper Clarke produced another defence-splitting pass with ten minutes remaining, allowing Ratan-Wright to race through at full pace and slide the ball past the keeper to make it 3-3.

There was still time for chances at both ends, with Grant coming closest for CSKA as they pushed for a late winner.
