Tristan Ratan-Wright’s second-half goal earned CSKA Carnabys a 1-0 Division One victory at Blaby & Whetstone despite a scoreline that flattered the hosts’ resistance.

Early concerns about the pitch surface proved unfounded as the visitors settled quickly and imposed their possession-based style from the first whistle. Matt Westerman came closest in the opening period with a powerful header, while Olly Arnold fired over the bar after a perfectly weighted pass from Jasper Clarke.

Much of the first half saw CSKA circulate the ball with patience and purpose. The relentless pressure forced Blaby & Whetstone into three personnel changes and a tactical reshuffle before the interval as they struggled to cope with the visitors’ control of tempo and territory.

The breakthrough arrived in the 52nd minute. Ratan-Wright collected the ball on the edge of the area, drove inside past a defender, and curled a right-footed shot into the far corner to break the deadlock.

Jacob Blount nearly doubled the lead after the break when Clarke again produced an incisive pass between the centre-backs, but the chance was ultimately spurned. Pascal Bouttier-Butler, introduced early in the second half, injected immediate energy into the attack. His quick feet, sharp runs and high press caused repeated problems, and he came close with a cheeky lob over a defender and a glancing header that sailed over the goalkeeper.

Theo Grant also made a positive impact from the bench, adapting instantly and helping CSKA maintain momentum down the left flank. He linked neatly with Clarke before seeing a shot blocked, while Clarke himself tested the keeper with a couple of efforts from distance. Arnold struck the woodwork from close range as the visitors continued to dominate.

In the closing stages, Bouttier-Butler entertained the travelling support with some deft footwork in the corner to help run down the clock, and felt a clear penalty appeal should have been awarded in his favour.

The result completed a successful away day: three points, a clean sheet, and a performance that combined control with moments of individual quality. The management group highlighted the contributions of the substitutes as particularly influential at key moments, a sentiment echoed by teammates in their Man of the Match voting.
