CSKA suffered at the hands of Midland Rangers in this morning’s Division One clash, with the home side running away with a resounding 6-1 victory as they chase down third place.

Despite spells of good possession early on on a damp pitch, Midland punished CSKA very early in the game and found themselves 3-0 up with just 15 minutes on the clock. Each of the goals breaking the lines allowing the strikers one-on-one and each were clinical on the day.

CSKA responded well despite the deficit, and almost found a way back in on 25minutes when Olly McDougall was brought down by the Midland Rangers goalkeeper. But he turned hero as Dan Danes’s penalty was tipped around the post by the outstetched ‘keeper. Olly McDougall then came close with an effort just off the bar, and Manish Verma’s speculative effort could have went in on another day. CSKA would have to wait until 40 minutes to get a well earned goal after neat interchanges involving Manish Verma and Dan Danes who played in Hiran Mistry who poked the ball underneath the onrushing keeper.

CSKA were not out of the game, far from it but as the second half began the next goal was vitally important. Unfortunately in similar vein to the first three, Midland were effective on the break and after a chance for CSKA was closed down inside the box, Midland moved forward quickly and bearing down on goal, knocked the ball past Luengtin to make it 4-1.

A rare sliced clearance from Luengtin presented a half chance for Midland again, who finished well from a very tight angle. And the rout was complete when Midland were awarded a penalty on 75 minutes. Despite saving the initial penalty, Luengtin was helpless against the rebound.

Manager's Comments

Strange game this, I cannot take anything away from Midland Rangers who were excellent today. But I think our lads can feel a little hard-done by in the final score.

The football played was at a good standard, and we stuck to our principles on style of play, unfortunately we were just unable to create any meaningful chances in the second half.

CSKA Man of the Match

Another solid showing from Hiran who dictated most of the attacking spells that we did have. Never afraid to get stuck in and had to ride a few challenges. Was asked to cover a few different roles today as we tried to combat the opposition and never let me down in any of them. Great work rate as we always get with Hiran.
