The opening two minutes set the tone for the entire game, great build up involving attacking midfielders and wide men, getting a dangerous ball into the area where there were players in there willing to attack it. The opening goal eventually coming after 10 minutes when some brilliant linked play with Caine Ward and Olly McDougall to drill the ball in for Olly Arnold to tuck it into the net to give CSKA a well deserved lead.

The lead doubled some 10 minutes later when a Connor Williams free-kick was met by Matt Westerman at the back post who squared it for Josh McDougall to grab his third goal of the season.

Whilst CSKA kept the Enderby players at bay throughout the half, goalkeeper Tej Shah was forced into making a very good save just before half-time, showing some proper bravery in the process.

Olly McDougall was terrorising his opponent down the left flank, which would eventually lead to one of them resorting to a bit of nasty force to try and stop him. But Olly just got back up to his feet and laughed it off. Dave Payne coming agonisingly close with the resulting free-kick.

The second half continued in the same vein, patient build up leading to explosive attacks down the flanks and delivery of testing balls into dangerous areas. With goals three and four both almost carbon copies of the first goal, both scored by Olly McDougall.

The tempo of the game from CSKA was superb, it was fast paced but it wasn’t rushed. CSKA played out from the back throughout and easily found pockets in the midfield or out wide. There wasn’t much of the game where it didn’t feel like CSKA were in possession, any time possession was lost players worked to win it back.

Manager's Comments

Today we demonstrated the fast pace attacking play that we are capable of, right from the off. The way we created chances and executed the finishing was something I could watch over and over again.

The lads in the defensive areas recycled the play superbly allowing us to expand into the attacking areas. When we were in those areas, everyone showed desire to get on the end of crosses.

CSKA Man of the Match

Olly McDougall looked lively from the start and was unlucky not to score in the opening seconds of the game. He gave us plenty of defensive cover against a wing-back and released himself at every opportunity with positive direct running and the ability to outmuscle and outrun multiple defenders who couldn’t get near him.
Delivered a lovely assist for the opening goal and then bagged two himself, in doing so, making himself the first team’s youngest ever goalscorer.
