Match Summary

⚽️ O McDougall

An early Olly McDougall goal was not enough for CSKA as they drop points at home for the first time this season.

“Prospect” gave CSKA a lead after just two minutes when his high press forced an error from the dwelling defender allow him to casually tuck it past the keeper.

Connor Williams came close on three occasions to extending CSKA’s lead, each time from a direct free-kick, and Olly Arnold had a close range effort well saved.

Goalkeeper, Tej Shah, saw red when he was adjudged to have brought down the onrushing striker on the edge of the box. Meaning CSKA had to see out the final 20 minutes with 10 men. Ruben Capp stepped in goal and looked comfortable until a Birstall effort from the edge of the box was guided in to make it 1-1.

Manager's Comments

A difficult one to address today, but I think on reflection we need to accept that the performance was overall a bit too flat and lacked enough real killer instinct to finish it off. The high-risk-high-reward brand relies on more than one goal in a game.

CSKA Man of the Match

Mark looked very solid in possession from the back and defended superbly throughout, naturally brought the defence further up which mean we could have stronger and longer spells of possession and recycled the ball in high areas.  Connor was unlucky not to be on the scoresheet today but for being thwarted on 3 occasions by the goalkeeper from each of his well struck free-kicks. Showed real gains in his aerial work in recent games and today that was on display.
