CSKA Carnabys have announced the retirement of Reserve Team Manager and club legend, Bav Gangajalia.
Bav joined CSKA in the summer of 2014 scoring on his competitive debut against Newdawn Athletic in a 6-2 win. He would go on to play in an additional 209 games, making him the record appearance holder for CSKA II. Bowing out with a goal from his very last touch as a CSKA player in the 4-1 victory over Habesha in May 2024.
There have been notable moments in his playing career, renowned for his tenacity and work-rate, Bav is never seen at anything less than 100% commitment to the cause. He won two Golden Boot Awards for CSKA II in 2015/16 and again in 2017/18.
Bav was appointed CSKA II Player-Manager in 2021, taking over from Steve Maggs. A 5-2 victory in his first game in charge away at North Kilworth Reserves was the first of 21 victories he led his team to. His 70 games in charge make him the longest serving reserve team manager.
Bav will leave the club to focus on refereeing and supporting his son’s youth development in football (future CSKA striker!). Bav will remain within the club as a club ambassador.
“It’s been an honour to play with Bav over these past 10
years, and work closely with him in management over the past 2 years. Together
we have make great strides in the development of the players at this club, and a
lot of that is down to the support I’ve had from Bav.
The day to day running of the club has been made a lot easier
having Bav alongside me, and has always been a supportive colleague in times of
need.” – CM
