CSKA 5-1 Blaby Foxes (Div2) Dramatic comeback at Davenport Road

Dawid Farbicki Fixture
Date: Sunday 06 December 2020
Venue: Rawlins Stadium
Referee: Dawid Farbicki, Leics

After a five week break from action due to COVID19 Lockdown 2.0 CSKA jumped straight into action at home to bottom side Blaby Foxes.

Jon Brice made several changes to the side that last featured against NEBA last time out, notably with Brad Parker making his first start of the season. And just 5 minutes into the game Parker was on the scoresheet, poking home from close range from a Sean Brown cross.

But the lead was short lived with a powerful shot from the edge of the box was well saved by Augustus, but Scott Taylor was on hand to tap in the rebound to make it 1-1.

A carbon-copy of the first goal, this time from an Andy Pettitt cross also from the right flank again bundled home by Parker. And the hat-trick was completed within the first 25 minutes after a neat pirouette on the edge of the box followed by a low drive past the helpless keeper.

CSKA dominated the half, with the defenders easily dealing with the numerous long balls over the top, Adam King was chasing down and blocking every cross superbly, whilst Sean Brown was doing his own thing from right-back with an array of tricks and flicks!

The visitors needed any sort of luck to get back into the game, and strangely it came on 35 minutes when a sliding challenge by Gaz Walker was synchronised with a slip by the Blaby striker and to the surprise of both teams, the referee awarded a penalty. So for the fifth time in 4 games, Rich Augustus faced a penalty, and for the second consecutive game the penalty was saved.

There was more heroics to follow from Augustus, as his long clearance caused some problems in the Blaby defence allowing Dave Payne to sneak in and calmly lob it over the stranded goalkeeper, and give CSKA a 4-1 lead at half-time.

The second half was a much more measured affair with neither side able to create any clear chances and possibly displaying signs of fatigue following the lengthy break from football. Manager Brice rang in the changes mid-way through the second half, and it was one of the subs who finally hit a fifth, Jack Lucas with an arrowed strike from outside the box was a superb way for the youngster to claim his first ever goal for the club.

A fine performance after a long time away from the game for The Mods, the votes for Man of the Match were shared three ways with Walker, Brice and Brown all claiming the award.
