CSKA Carnabys Bio

Jay was also an original CSKA member back in 2008 and played in the club’s first ever fixture.

Despite struggling to break into the team, or even find a position that suited him, Jay went one better by creating a style of play and a presence on the pitch that resulted in “The Jay Role”. It was a position just in behind a lone striker that many tried to fit into, and many tried to take away from him by way of being a second striker or a deeper midfielder, but none succeeded.

Jay was good for a lot of goals and a lot of assists, without ever really being a standout player, you’d certainly know how good he was when you played a game without him.

Jay captained the side during their infamous 2011/12 campaign and led the side out in the Stokes Cup Semi-Final. He was a threat on the backpost from corners and quietly went about his business in 2012/13 to the Golden Boot Award.

Jay’s CSKA Career took a blow in 2016/17 when an ACL injury sidelined him for the best part of 4 years. But his commitment to the club even during his injury earned him the Clubman Award in 2017/18, and was then appointed CSKA II Manager the following season.

Alongside Steve Maggs, the duo turned a corner with CSKA II and saw more victories in a season than any of their predecessors, building a winning system that was unfortunately halted as a result of the Global Pandemic.

Jay saw out his remaining years as a player and rediscovered his goalscoring touch in 21/22, before eventually having to retire due to relocation in 2022.
